Should Your Children Play Disney Heroes or Not?

When people think of Disney, they think of family-friendly entertainment that is appropriate for even the youngest members of the family. This goes for their locations, films, toys, video games and more. One of the massive company’s latest offerings is a video game to play on mobile devices they named Disney Heroes.

Disney Heroes is a turn-based role-playing game (RPG) that allows users to collect and train their favorite characters from across the Disney universe. There are various ways to do this, from collecting items for badges to accumulating points from beating levels. Players also gain access to special battle areas as they level up, which helps them to advance quicker.

Is Disney Heroes Appropriate for Young Children?

Many parents are wondering whether Disney’s latest mobile video game is appropriate for young children. The short answer is no, not really. While there are no graphic scenes, curse words or inappropriate situations that would be harmful to a young child, it is more difficult than your preschooler would be able to play. There is also mild, non-graphic violence that some parents might not find appropriate.

What Age is the Game Appropriate for?

This leads to the question of what age Disney Heroes is actually appropriate for children. Common Sense Media rated the game as appropriate for ages seven and up, although some parents disagreed with the rating. A significant amount of parents rated the game as not being appropriate for children under the age of 10, while a few stated it wasn’t appropriate for children younger than teenagers.

The reason for these ratings is that they based Disney Heroes heavily on consumerism, which some parents don’t want to influence their children. Also, some people cited mild violence, as well as one parent who felt that some of the language was inappropriate.

Many people think the game is too pricey. And while the game is free to play, some items cost players a special currency they can buy at an additional cost. Worse yet, it can be difficult to level up without this special currency.

Every child is different, so the decision whether to allow your child to play Disney Heroes is yours to make. Your best bet is to watch the trailer and try the demo so you can make an informed decision.
